.busy bee.

Thought I'd share just a couple of photos from the myriad of shoots I've done this past month.

Once I have a chance to wade through it all, I'll post more.

Impromptu shoot at St. Mark's with jpb. So much fun.

The Brinkman's at Red Rocks. So cold, but they handled it like champs.

This was my second shoot with the Stocker's this year. Love these 3 so much and I'm looking forward to meeting the 4th member of the band. (c;

I love this picture of Jason and Abbey...

11.11. - The Big Picture

Yesterday was Veterans Day, or Armistice Day, when on the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month", in 1918, the armistice was signed for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front at the end of World War I. The date is now observed by many of the allied nations from that era as Veterans Day, Armistice Day, Remembrance Day or Poppy Day - a day set aside to commemorate the sacrifices made by those in the armed forces and their families. Collected below are photos of Veterans and Remembrance Day from the United States and several Commonwealth nations.

awake my soul

After months of anticipation, Whitney, Erin and I finally got to hear the fantastic Mumford boys live.

It. was. fantastic. I mean...ridiculous fantastic. There are no words.

However, as someone who enjoys taking pictures, I can provide you with at least 1,000 {click for larger view}

Pictures

I had 2 portrait sessions last weekend; first, the Clair clan and I hiked around the lake near their house and had a ton of fun! The next day, I got the chance to take maternity pictures of the lovely Leah Rohwer and her husband Mark. (c:

Thought I'd share some of the moments we captured.

First, the whole Clair Family; Jed, Kaziah, Loua, Dave, Eirene and Tryphena (plus their super cute dogs)

The kids

Next up, Mark and Leah...and the baby girl (c;

We had to do the obligatory hands on tummy make a heart...

all the leaves are brown.

whit and i road-tripped (verb) it up to estes in the hopes that i could capture the lovely color change on the aspen trees. unfortunately, there were a few things that went wrong...
a) i only had 1 cf card with me and it was my 256mb...lame sauce, steph. lame.
2) a large majority of the trees had already let go of the yellow loveliness...lame sauce, trees. lame.

despite the setbacks, i still got to hang with whit and there are few things better on a sunday afternoon.

on the way...

fuel for the fire (don't worry...it's of the root persuasion.)

we did get to see a bull elk with his harem. he was showing off and doing his best to show the 2 other bulls in the area that ALL of the ladies were his. selfish bastard. seriously...there were 20 ladies, at least. enough to go around. but that's not how elk roll, apparently.

and whit and i established our mutual favoritism of autumn...but for wholly different reasons.

we agreed on the weather, but we both dig spring and autumn for their weather...what pushed her over the edge for the fall is the football season. she loves her some men in tight pants beating the tar out of each other (me? i prefer men on ice...with sticks). (c:

what really makes me favor fall is completely aesthetic. i love bare trees. i do love the colors (and, lets be honest, i just love trees) but there is something about the bones of the tree. the core. the graceful beauty. i just appreciate them more in their raw form.

i'm weird.
but that's okay.

i'm a bit sad because i will be missing out on a pumpkin carving party on saturday...pumpkins, cider, friends...i wish i could be there. )c:

but, i get to shoot gabe and kelly's wedding, and let's face it...it's going to be epic. (c;

happy autumn, everyone...what's your favorite season?

crazy.

so i had quite a crazy weekend.

started with a wedding on saturday. zac and ashley got married at the historic trinity united methodist in downtown denver. it was a lovely ceremony with a sweet, beautiful couple.

then a family shoot for my friend, noelle. i had a lot of fun with this group. they were great and so easy to work with! (c:

then tornados, tornados, tornados on sunday...

outside my church just before being pelted by hail...

driving home on sheridan, i saw this funnel cloud. it had started to recede by the time i got the camera out, but it was quite freaky.

shooty shooty

last weekend i had a shoot with my old roommate (annette), my old boss (debbie) and her daughter (nikki). annette and debbie work for the same company and needed PR shots for their website and nikki just needed some new pics. we also threw in annette's husband for the website for their church.

annette and debbie are seriously a couple of my favs. they are incredibly fun and sarcastic. perfect. (c: i hadn't spent a lot of time with nikki before this, but she was so much fun too. it certainly runs in their family.

here are a few of the out-takes. (the "good" shots are boring)

awkward.... (c;

we are hilarious.

no...wait. she's hilarious.

contemplative

i don't even know...

goofs. :)

i think annette pinched debbie...and evidently, she's pretty proud of that. (c;

awww...aren't they cute?

i love this shot of debbie. (c:

.self.

at the risk of seeming completely narcissistic, i wanted to do something a little different and share my self portaits.

at the beginning of my year at school, we were challenged to take a self portrait. being photographers, a large portion (not all, but most) of us don't particularly enjoy being on the front side of the lens, but in an effort to grow and push our boundries, the teaching staff wanted us to break out of our little comfortable zones and show the world a piece of ourselves.

we were challenged to do this during each phase (4 total). it started off difficult and ended more personally than i could have ever imagined. so here are the results of a year of self reflection (for better or worse) with a little explanation of each one.

PHASE 1
while trying to come up with my first concept, for some reason my love of words was the first thing that came to mind. i threw around some ideas involving ditionaries or thesauri, but that seemed lame...and then, what words would i use? then it occured to me that, rather than using some of my favorite words (my original idea) i should make it more personal and try to use words that describe me. so i enlisted the help of a few friends, and my mother, for suggestions of what words they associated with me. armed with a little pile of words i went to the task of figuring out how to incorporate them into the photograph. it didn't take me long to get to the idea of writing them on my hands and that also put my hands between the lens and my face. score. (c:

and yes i did write all of that (even on my right hand) i'm pretty skilled. (c; i did not, however, take the actual shot...the sweet ashley elizabeth hit the shutter for me (and what a fine job she did, eh?)

PHASE II
i got a lot of really great feedback on my first self portrait, so when we were given the task to produce yet another one, it kinda freaked me out. i knew i couldn't do something as cool as my first one. so i procrastinated. i thought of a few cool ideas, but i just couldn't pull any of them off so i tried to go as simple as possible. one of my absolute favorite photographs from my childhood is of my mom and i when i was about 18months. i had the photo with me, so i tried a few different ways to incorporate it into my self portrait. this is what i came up with.

thanks to amy-lynn for the help on this one. (c:

PHASE III
and speaking of amy-lynn...she had been giving me a hard time for doing everything i possibly could to not show my face, that i tried to come up with a way of doing a photograph with my face. one of my favorite teachers (paul teeling) loves, loves, loves out-of-focus pictures. i think that may come from his years of fashion photography and everything having to be perfect. when you're exposed to that much "perfection" it's probably easy to want to get as far from it as possible.

so, inspired by paul...and feeling slightly guilty for never showing my face...i thought i'd make a compromise and do a paul teeling inspired shot. blurry, low light and in your face.

PHASE IV
my fourth and final self portrait for the year was something i had been contemplating and i went thru a lot of various ideas. the final shot came from the fact that a few people mentioned that my tattoo was visible in my phase one photograph and they thought that was cool (regardless of how unintentional it was). it also appears in the phase two shot and it got me to thinking that since i did a shot that was very much centered around my mother, that i should attempt to do a shot centered around my dad.

any shot with my tattoo has a bit to do with him since my tattoo is very much about my dad, but i wanted to try my best to tell the story with a picture knowing all the while that it would still remain ambiguous.

again, thanks go to amy-lynn with her help on this shot...she has great ribbon arranging skills, no? (c;
