cinco.de.mayo

i've been reminded lately how much i miss the studio. first with the PR shots a few weeks ago with debbie and annette, then with little charlie last week.

i loved being able to have so much control over the picture environment.

*sigh* i miss that.

in memory of those lov-e-ly days...here is one of the very first shots i took in studio. (c:

that's matty. (c: he's fantastic. and here is his website.

ooo... i like this shot.
and i checked out his work... very good stuff. his portraits are very intimate, which says a lot about a photographer. i'm not exactly sure what it says, but his desire to almost climb inside his subject with how close his compositions are mean something, i'm sure. you, for instance, take very delicate portraits. you leave a sense of mystery with each subject, rather than exposing their deepest truths. (and that's my philosophical photography rant for the day) :)

i think your philosophical rant was quite on point. (c: i think it's easy to see a photographers personality in they way they handle subjects.

matt is a very personable person and he likes to dig deep and get to know people and i think that's why you see the intimacy in his portraits.

in the same token, that is why mine retain their mystery. i don't like to reveal myself easily to anyone and, while i like to give an expression of my subject, i will only pull from them what i would be willing to give.
