construction

the big construction project began this weekend. we're attempting to make the house more suitable to my dad's needs now that he has the wheelchair and can be more mobile.

it all started outside with complete destruction of the front porch and sidewalks to make way for a wider, more even surface. james, his father-in-law (al), his brother-in-law (jesse) and our friend mike all came over to tackle the project...jack-hammer and all. (c: on saturday, they managed to tear out the existing cement completely and get it all framed up and ready for the filler and the concrete. on sunday, james, jesse and al came with the filler and put the base surface down so it's all ready for the concrete. today they put down filler for a new driveway. they won't be finishing the driveway with concrete, they'll just leave it at the filler.

if you want to see pictures from the project, just follow the photo album. (c:

jesse brought his son, gabe, to "help". mostly he rode on his bike and popped wheelies for my mom and i. but if you check out the construction album, you can see that he did help a few times.

i had a lot of fun just playing around with him and taking pictures of his bike riding skills. he really wanted me to get a picture of him mid-wheelie...gotta impress the chicks, you know? i got a few fun ones and this kid is seriously fearless. he crashed and burned a few times and most 6 year olds i know would break down and cry. not gabe, though. he'd just get up, brush off and keep going, knowing that the next wheelie would be the best. seriously, he's one of the greatest kids ever.

i'll keep you updated as the projects come along and post pictures along the way...you know i'm always good for a picture or two (or thirty). after all the concrete is finished, the work on the inside begins.

it's gonna be interesting...
